DotNed(.NET & VSTS UG NL) hosted a meeting yesterday 11-6-2009 at Microsoft Innovation Center Barneveld, NL about "How you organize your projects using the new cool futures of VSTS2010" by Ewald Hofman from Avanade . It was a great entertainement with 14 people and good interaction. A chalk & Talk session about VSTS2010/TFS2010 will follow soon by Hassan Fadili (MVP Team System).

VSTS User Group sessie op 11 juni 2009 in Barneveld

Vanuit de VSTS track van DotNed (.NET & VSTS UG NL) is een speciale sessie over VSTS2010 Application Life Cycle Management georganisserd op 11-6-2009 in Barneveld bij het Microsoft Innovation Centre. Deze sessie zal gegeven worden door Ewald Hofman van Evanade. De sessie is tevens gesponsored door Avanade, daarvoor ons dank. Meld je aan hiervoor op ons DotNed site. Graag zien we jullie op 11-6-2009 in Barneveld vanaf 18:00.

DotNed - VSTS UG sessie van 9-3-2009 is wederom een succes!

Maar liefst 44 man van de 50 aangemelde bezoekers, hebben de VSTS UG sessie van 9-3-2009 bij VXCompany door Peli de Hallux Bijgewoond. Het is wederom een succes.

Alle eerst zou ik graag vanuit DotNed (.NET & VSTS UG NL), VXCompany hartelijk bedanken voor de hosting van dit event in hun geweldige locatie en uiteraard met het verzorgen van een lekkere hapje en drankje voor de aanwezige. VXCompany enorm bedankt hiervoor.

Tijdens deze sessie heeft Peli de Hallux een aantal test tools waaraan gewerkt wordt binnen zijn team bij Microsoft Research in Redmond uit de doeken gehaald. Het gaat om:

- Managed Contract Tools

- Pex - Automated Whitebox Testing for .NET

- CHESS: Systematic Concurrency-Testing Tool

Aan de hand van powerpoint slides en code voorbeelden (demos), heeft Peli de Hallux deze tools doorgelopen en de ins- & outs daarvan uitgelegd. De interactie van het publiek met de spreker was erg goed en kunnen de aanwezige hun vragen gerust stellen over deze onderwerpen.

DotNed (.NET & VSTS UG NL) is very pleased to welkom Peli de Hallux during his talk for DotNed. Peli will be next month in Europe and will speak to many User Groups.

The talk of Peli for DotNed (.NET & VSTS UG NL) VSTS session track will take place on March 9th, 2009 from 18:00 until 21:30 and will be hosted by VXCompany, thanks in advance. During his talk, Peli will discus the following content:

This talk presents 3 innovative tools from Microsoft Research in collaboration with Visual Studio DevLabs related to software reliability and testing: Code Contracts, Pex and CHESS (all tools are available for evaluation through the DevLabs incubation site from Visual Studio).

• Code Contracts provide a language-agnostic way to express coding assumptions, under the form of pre-conditions, post-conditions, and object invariants, for .NET programs. The contracts are used to improve testing via runtime checking, enable static contract verification, and documentation generation. Pex is an automated white box testing tool for .NET.

• Pex systematically tries to cover every reachable branch in a program by monitoring execution traces, and using a constraint solver to produce new test cases with different behavior. Pex can be guided by hand-written parameterized unit tests, which are API usage scenarios with assertions. The result of the analysis is a test suite which can be persisted as unit tests in source code.

• CHESS is a tool for finding and reproducing Heisenbugs in .NET and Win32 concurrent programs. CHESS repeatedly runs a concurrent test ensuring that every run takes a different interleaving. If an interleaving results in an error, CHESS can reproduce the interleaving for improved debugging.

The talk will give you a glimpse at those new technologies, along with coding demos.

Bio of Peli:

Jonathan "Peli" de Halleux is actively working on Pex, an Automated Whitebox Testing tool for .NET at Microsot Research. Peli also collaborates with his colleagues from the CHESS and Code Contracts projects. On the side Peli also wrote MbUnit, an extensible unit test framework, many Reflector addins and other fun geek projects. Peli joined the Research in Software Engineering group in October 2006 where he has been working on Pex since then. Peli worked in the CLR as a tester in charge of the Just In Time compiler (2004-2006) and earned a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the Catholic University of Louvain (2000-2004).

DotNed meeting 25-9-2008 & VSTS-TFS sessie, een succes!

Met maar liefst 48 bezoekers, was de DotNed meeting van 25-9-2008 over TFS 2008 wederom weer een succes. Deze meeting is mede mogelijk gemaakt door: Detrio Consultancy BV, daarvoor ons dank.

Dennis Vroegop heeft Detrio Consultancy BV in het zonnetje gezet en heeft laten zien waar we mee bezig zijn binnen Detrio als het gaat om 3D grafisch modellen gerealiseerd met de nieuwste technologieen (WPF, TFS, VS2008,...etc).

Daarna heeft Hassan Fadili het topic van deze avond Team Foundation Server 2008 Ins & Outs behandeld en de werking daarvan d.m.v. demos laten zien.

Wij kijken ernaar uit om jullie na de PDC2008 meer te gaan vertellen over wat op ons afkomt als het gaat om Microsoft technologieen.

As far as I understand, Dreamweaver doesn't support MSSCCI, but has a different integration to VSS databases. Dreamweaver uses a C++ based API for Source Code repository providers - hence details of what platform you would want it to work from are important.
FYI, the MSSCCI is an interface for talking to source control systems popularised by Visual Source Safe. It has some limitations but has been adopted by a number of vendors as a way of getting applications to talk to source control systems. Microsoft provide a MSSCCI provider for Team Foundation Server that allows you to use TFS for source control from older applications (such as Visual Studio 2003 etc).

In the meantime, you can use the Microsoft Team Explorer client to check-in / check-out files outside of Dreamweaver or use the Teamprise Explorer client from a non Windows OS.

Het is weer zover, 3e sessie van VSTS UG komt er aan op 8-5-2008 bij Macaw Nederland B.V.!

Op donderdag 8 mei 2008 vanaf 18:00, wordt de 3e sessie van VSTS UG gehouden bij Macaw Nederland B.V. (http://www.macaw.nl/) in Beech Avenue 140,
1119 PR Schiphol-Rijk Amsterdam.

De spreker van de avond is niemand anders dan Henri Kluijtmans. Henri is werkzaam bij RELIFORCE (www.reliforce.com) en is vanaf het begin met VSTS aan de slag. Tijdens deze sessie zal Henri Team System 2008 Extensibility het revieuw laten passeren denk aan:

- Architectuur van Team System

- Coderen via Object Model

- Core Services

- Versie beheer

- Workitems

- Event system

Daarnaast zal Henri de flow van het aanmaken van Team system project en het koppelen van eigen applicatie eraan laten zien.

Het beloofd een leuke en interessante en voorraal leerzaam avond te worden. Je ben alle van harte welkom.

Nadat het VSTS team de power tools voor VSTS 2008 (Developer edition) hebben gereleased, is gisteren de editie voor VSTS 2008 (Database Pro editie) beschikbaar gekomen. Sommige nieuwtjes van deze exclusive versie en de links waar je dat kunt vinden zijn hieronder beschreven:

The Power Tools for 2008 contains all the functionality they shipped in 2005 plus:

· Command line SQL Static Code Analysis execution through MSBuild, this was the biggest customer request, which is why I was holding the release. This enables SQL Static Code Analysis to be part of Team Build!

· Data Generation Wizard; this is another customer request where we allow them to create a new data generation plan by pointing at an existing database, the plan will be fully configured by the wizard to pull all data from the database. This way users can use an existing data set and only override the privacy concerned data and save about half a day or more of configuration

· File based data generator; this allows you to insert the content of files in to the database (works for string and binary, not for XML yet)

· XML based data generator; this allows you to generate XML based on an XSD (the XSD has to be provided as file right now, and cannot be selected from database or inherited from the data type)

· Refactoring Command Generator has been made available as a MSBuild task for better project build integration so it can be made part of the pre-build and pre-deployment stages in the project. This allows users to automated the results of refactoring to some degree in to the project.

WiX MSI Setup Package

WiX is de technologie die gebruikt wordt om de installer te bouwen van meeste Microsoft software packages (inclusief: Visual Studio, SQL Server en Office).

Er zijn sommige GUIs die je kunnen helpen om je WiX scripts te bouwen (builden!), maar meeste mensen gebruiken Visual Studio's XML editor omdat deze IntelliSense bevat.

Sommige GUIs zijn: WiXAware en Wix Edit

WiX zal geintegreerd worden in de volgende versie van Visual Studio - Codename "Rosario"

VSTS UG sessie februari komt eraan!

Op donderdag 7 februari 2008 wordt de tweede sessie van de VSTS UG gegeven door Marcel de Vries. Deze sessie zal plaats vinden bij New Horizons in Utrecht. Binnenkort zal de inschrijving op de site geplaatst worden, houd de site in de gaten om je te kunnen inschrijven.

Het onderwerp zal gaan over: TFS2008 What's new? Marcel zal alle Ins en Outs van deze nieuwe versie van TFS de revieuw laten passeren.

Ik hoop jullie met grote aantalen te zien op 7-2-2008 bij New Horizons in Utrecht, je bent vanaf 18:00 van harte welkom voor een hapje en een drankje.
